Grace Church Gore

Story

Our History

How Grace Church Gore began and became part of the Grace Presbyterian Church of NZ.

Our history connections date back to one of Gore's earliest churches, the East Gore Presbyterian Church (PCANZ). After it closed down in 1998, a number of the congregation were keen to keep on worshipping in East Gore. An approach was made to the Wyndham Evangelical Church to see if they would be able to supply preachers for the group. This group of about 30 started meeting at the East Gore School Hall and the first service was held on 6th July 1998.

Meeting in the school hall continued for about four years. Then the Gore District Council put up the East Gore Hall for sale. The church decided to put in a tender for the hall, and was successful.

People gave and the building was bought and renovated and church services commenced at 30 Hamilton Street in January 2003. It was around this time moves were made by several groups throughout New Zealand to start a new denomination to be known as Grace Presbyterian Churches or New Zealand. This was a move of mainly Presbyterian people who longed to try and get the church more simply back to the Bible. Grace Church Gore decided to join this fledgling group. They were one of seven original congregations to form what is now known as the Grace Presbyterian Church of NZ (GPCNZ). There are now 26 different congregations that make up GPCNZ and Grace Church Gore is pleased to continue as part of this body of Gods people who are desiring to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to every corner of NZ as well as to the world.
